Why Good Friday?

This week I take a look at the question of why Good Friday was necessary by looking at Genesis 1.

If you have questions, prayer requests, comments, suggestions, or a story to share please feel free to call/text (727) 315-0830 or email stories@godatworkpodcast.com

I will be presenting the concept of Good Friday this month in two different ways. First for the history week we will look at why we call it Good Friday. Then with the Bible Study I will be looking at a deep and probably philosophical reason why Good Friday had to happen in the first place.

Motivations

This week in one of my unscripted segments I discuss how as Christians we need to constantly examine our motivations. To look at and ask why we are doing what we are doing; are we doing it to elevate ourselves among others or are we doing it to truly elevate God?

Lot’s Wife

This week I was unable to get an interview lined up for the month and decided to do what I am calling Unscripted, where I just talk about something that has recently been on my mind.

This week I mention talk about Lot’s wife and one possibility for her looking back to the cities of Sodom and Gomorah as they were being destroyed. I don’t think I am the first to think of the possiblity that I bring up but I had never before heard any one else mention it.

The story of Sodom and Gomorah is the first time in the Bible where we are even given any indication that Lot was married. There is no mention of family when Lot seperates from Abram and heads towards Sodom and Gomorah, or even when Abram rescues Lot when Sodom and Gomorah were captured, at least twelve years before their destruction.

So there is a possibility that Lot didn’t meet his wife until he settled in Sodom and Gomorah to where by the time the angels came he could of had daughters old enough to be considered for marriage and not yet married. So what if the possibility of Lot’s wife looking back was becasue all she knew was about to be completely destroyed?

This concept sort of mirrors the idea Jesus presents of hating mother, father, family, and friends in order to follow Him. There are times in our lives when God tells us we need to cut ties with friends and family becasue not to do so would bring us down and lead us away from God. That is not to say that we aren’t to pray for them, but we also need to realize it might not be for us to lead them to salvation either.
