J.R.R. Tolkien

This week in my history episode I decided to take a look at J.R.R. Tolkien, who while not influential or known specifically for his faith it was his faith that played an important role in his life and his works.

The Christmas Story collection I was talking about is “Letters From Father Christmas” and can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007978M9S/?coliid=I3I6FRDMQWREAH&colid=FBNRYQGGSUTG&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

What’s Good About Good Friday?

I know that Good Friday was a couple of weeks ago, but I figured why not talk about why we call Good Friday “good.” I will say I found out things I didn’t realize in looking into this topic after one of the men at the St. Pete Dream Center’s Table Talk prayer breakfast asked the same question back on Good Friday.

If you have questions, prayer requests, comments, suggestions, or a story to share please feel free to call/text (727) 315-0830 or email stories@godatworkpodcast.com

I will be presenting the concept of Good Friday this month in two different ways. First for the history week we will look at why we call it Good Friday. Then with the Bible Study I will be looking at a deep and probably philosophical reason why Good Friday had to happen in the first place.

Silent Night

Well, I decided to do a special holiday episode for December and to hold everyone over until the first of the year when I start with season 2.

In this episode, I take a look at the story of the Christmas Carol “Silent Night” and finish off with a reading of the English translation of the original text as well as a reading of what is traditionally sung in regards to the carol.

Martin Luther

This week I take a look at the person that many believe was the one to start the Protestant Reformation, Martin Luther.

Augustine of Hippo

This week I look at the life of Augustine of Hippo or better known as Saint Augustine. This was probably one of the people in church history that God working in their life is very apparent. It was just by a set of circumstances that Augustine became priest and later bishop in Hippo. He also attributed his conversion to a divine command to “Take up and read.” The one thing is without Augustine’s teachings and writings I am not sure how the Protestant Reformation would have looked as many of the reformers were influenced by Augustine’s theology.

Here are the main sites I used when researching about Augustine.

John Calvin and the Bible

This episode I look at John Calvin and how God used the Bible to shape Calvin’s theology and how this in turn became a view of Sola Scriptura or Scripture alone, where Calvin viewed God as working through the Scriptures to reveal Himself to the Christian.
